21st Century Skill: Civic Literacy and Engagement
The Assignment and Why I Chose It:
The assignment was to write a bill on a topic you care about. This was actually a project done by students in Mr.Adam's Participation in Democracy class. Student had to choose a topic to write a bill on. We did extensive research on our topics and then wrote a bill. I did my bill on how individuals in the top 10% of wealth in the US should be taxed more. After writing the bills, we did peer reviews with a partner and gave pointers to each other on how we could or should improve our bills. I chose this project because not only did it take multiple skills besides Civic Literacy and Engagement, but this project was also interesting and was about a topic I am passionate about. How I used Civic Literacy and Engagement:
In this project student had to learn more about the government in their research. I know I learned more about our federal government and how bills become laws. This project helped student to analyze sources for our research as well. This project also gave students an opportunity to learn how to write a bill. Working on the bill also helps students to understand how laws and bills can individually affect everyone in the government or nation. To complete this project students definitely had to show our understanding to analyze and participate in the government. Since we can't vote this is anther way we can learn about the government. |

Strengths and Current Growth:
In this project we learned more about democracy and government as a whole. On this project I think that I did a pretty well explaining each point and adding detail. I also learned how to do better and more extensive research for a single topic. Overall this was a good project and helped me to use other skills that I've learned in the past. Some of the skills are Self-Directional Skills, time management, and Global Awareness. Though I used some of the other skills Civic Literacy and Engagement was still the main skill of this project.

Weak Points and New Growth:
For this project there are a few things that I could improve on for the future. Although I used multiple skills for this project I didn't use some of them very well. For example, even though I learned a lot and used Civic Literacy and Engagement well I didn't use Self-Directional Skills very well. For the future in both assignments and projects I should keep working on Civic Literacy and Engagement as well as other skills I'm not as good at.
