Work Sample: HARF Video
Description of Work/Assignment: In community engagement, student had to make a video discussing one aspect of how to be responsible around dogs. Student formed groups of 3-5 people and split up the roles of cameraman, director, editor, etc. Each group then had to choose a topic about dog to cover in their videos. The group that I was in chose to make a video about how to interact with and approach a service dog. In my group, I was the editor and helped to film and direct. Which 21st-century skill do you feel this assignment addresses and why? I feel that this project best represents the 21st-century skill of interpersonal skills. This was a group project and we really had to work together in order to make a good video. We worked together well for this project and as members of the group. So I think this project represents interpersonal skills well. What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of the editing of this project. I was in charge of editing the video for this project. How well the video was edited was a significant part of our overall grade for this project. I had a bit of pressure on me to edit well, so I am proud of my editing job because we got a great grade for this project. How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st-century skill with this assignment? We haven't had a large group project in a while so this project helped to refresh how group cooperation can affect the outcome and process of the project. So I really just got reacquainted with interpersonal skills because of this project. What was the most difficult thing about completing this assignment? This project was relatively simple and I had a good group so there wasn't really any difficult parts in this project. I will say that filming was initially a little difficult though. This was because we had to wait for the HARF organization to bring in a service dog. How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently? If I were to do this project again, I'd probably leave more time for filming. We kind of rushed the filming process and I think we could have slowed down the filming process to make it better. How does this relate to what you have done in the past? I've made videos for classes independently, but having so many people work on the video was a little different. It helped me to solidify my interpersonal skills in a way that was comfortable for me. How can you apply this to future learning? I will have to use interpersonal skills in and out of school, so I will definitely relate to learning about how to interact with other people in large settings. Especially because there are less and less Covid-19 restrictions and people are actually hanging out with other people again. |
