Work Sample: Spanish Country Project
For this project students had to get into groups of 3-5 people and choose a Spanish speaking country to do a project on. Student were given the choice from 21 countries. Students had to make a poster to represent information about the country that they chose. The poster had to include information showing the history and art of the country, the cuisine and entertainment of the country, the geography and climate of the the country, and the current events and social aspects of the country. The groups also had to include something unique in their presentations in order to make them more memorable, whether it be 3-d model, slide presentation or a really nice poster. For this project students had to do a lot of research on the countries they chose. The groups also had to include multiple Spanish words when presenting about their country. My group chose Honduras for our country. From this project I am most proud of the 3-d model I made for the presentation. In the project I did my part on the geography and climate of Honduras. I made a 3-d model to represent the mountain ranges and flat land in an accurate way. When speaking of the actual geography of a place, you can only get a limited amount of visual and information from a picture, so I decided to the model in order to more accurately show the geography of the country. I was most proud of this since it was one thing that made our group's presentation unique form other groups in our class. I was also proud of the 3-d model because I took a lot of time and effort to make sure the details of it were just right. I am most proud because I'm very happy with the final result of the model. The most difficult part about this project was working well with members of the group and trying to stay motivated throughout the project. During this project we were given a lot of time and we had to work is groups in order to do all the research that the project required. Some aspects of working in a group were nice while some of the aspects of working in a group weren't. It was especially difficult because one of the group members didn't do some of their work, so I had to pick up their slack while simultaneously doing my part of the project. It was frustrating because I had to do more work then I would have liked and it got a bit overwhelming towards the end of the project. All in all I learned to juggle more work and not to work with hat person again do win-win I guess. If I were to do this project again I'd make sure that everyone was focused and actually actively doing their work and using their time wisely. It was difficult when one person wasn't doing what they were supposed to be doing, so I can't imagine if more people were doing it or if it happened again. It made the project more difficult for me personally when someone else wasn't doing what they were supposed to, so if I were to do this project again then I'd definitely make sure to keep everyone on task in order to get the project done without anyone else feeling uncomfortable because of it. Because of this project I learned more about Spanish speaking countries and Honduras specifically. I can apply this next year in Spanish 2 and for the rest of the year while I continue to learn the basics of Spanish. 21st Century Skill: Global Awareness Because of this project I was able to learn more about different cultures from around the world. I was interested in learning about Honduras and its rich history and wide future. I learned more about Honduras specifically because it was the country that my group focused on, but I was also able to learn about other countries by listening to the presentations from other groups. For example, I learned more about Panama and Uruguay because of the other groups' presentations. The 21st century skill of global awareness is about learning and having knowledge of the cultures and differences from other countries. I feel that this project definitely taught me more about other cultures and other countries. |
