Prep Activity 5: Project Vision & Timeline
Junior Seminar With Ms. Cassie Kepler
Description of Work/Assignment:
Students were tasked with making a general plan and answering some basic questions about their junior project. Additionally, students had to create a timeline or goals with dates for their project. In this assignment, I answered the questions about my project and tried to make my timeline as detailed as possible so I’d have clear goals and timing for my project.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I feel that this assignment represented the 21st-century skill of self-directional skills. For this assignment, we had to understand and monitor our process for our junior project. Thinking about our projects and taking steps to plan out our projects actively took time outside of class. We had to be self-directional in order to make a plan that would work for the individual person and their project. During the assignment, I set personal goals for my project, demonstrating self-directional skills.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
From this assignment, I am most proud of my final timeline for my junior project. I put a lot of effort into making my timeline detailed, and I think I did a good job doing that. I planned out what I wanted to achieve each week leading up to the final presentation of my junior project.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
For the 21st-century skill of self-direction, I was able to improve my planning and goal-setting. I had to make specific goals in order to finish my timeline, so I had to apply my ability of goal setting, which in turn helped me to improve my 21st-century skill of self-direction.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The most difficult part of completing the assignment was the same thing that I was most proud of. I was able to create a detailed timeline in the end, but it took a lot of time to think about everything. I also had to revise my timeline multiple times as certain criteria or deadlines for the project changed.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I were to improve upon or do this assignment again, I would probably change the font and how I set up my timeline. There isn’t much I would change about the actual assignment; I am proud of my work and how I completed that assignment. The only thing I could think of to improve upon is the set-up of my timeline. I’ve looked at it for reference and to make sure I am staying on track; doing so, I’ve noticed that it is a bit hard to interpret because the dates all look the same. So if I were to do it again, I’d probably add some color in order to make it compelling(I’ll keep that in mind for my senior project).
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
In the past, we’ve had to plan out projects and tasks to do in the future. However, we haven’t had to do it as in-depth as we did for this assignment.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I will have to plan and make a timeline for my senior project, so I can use this assignment as a good reference and use it as a kind of blueprint for myself. I will also need to plan out tasks outside of school to apply some of this assignment's skills to extracurricular activities.
